Amazon.com referral fees · last checked 10 October 2026

Amazon referral fees for 2026: every US category, and where the price cliffs are.

The table below is copied from Amazon's own US pricing page and dated. Underneath it are the four categories where moving your price up by a cent moves you into a higher rate, with the dollar amounts worked out, so you can see which prices leave you with less than a cheaper one.

Source for every rate on this page: Amazon, Standard selling fees (sell.amazon.com/pricing), read 10 October 2026. Amazon can change these at any time. Check the source before you price a product, and check your product's fee category in Seller Central.

How the Amazon referral fee works

Amazon charges a referral fee on every item sold. In Amazon's words, you pay "a percentage of the total price or a minimum amount, whichever is greater". Three details catch people out:

  • It's charged on the total price, not just the item price. Amazon says an item's total price includes its list price, as well as shipping costs and any gift-wrapping charges.
  • Your fee category may not be the browse category. Amazon notes that a product's fee category may not be the same as the category customers see in the store.
  • It sits on top of your selling plan. The same page lists the Professional plan at $39.99 a month and the Individual plan at $0.99 per item sold. FBA fulfilment fees, storage and advertising are separate again.

"--" means Amazon lists no minimum for that category. Media items pay the $1.80 closing fee in addition to the referral fee. Merchant Fulfilled Services applies to services offered through Amazon Local Selling. Amazon also says new-to-Amazon brands can get over $50,000 in automatic referral-fee waivers in their first year; see the source page for the conditions.

Two kinds of tiered rate, and only one of them has a cliff

Read the tiered rows carefully, because Amazon uses two different kinds of tier.

  • "For the portion" tiers (Compact Appliances, Electronics Accessories, Furniture, Jewelry, Watches, Fine Art) charge each slice of the price at its own rate. There is no cliff. An Electronics Accessories item at $150.00 pays 15% on the first $100 and 8% on the remaining $50: US$15.00 + US$4.00 = US$19.00, an effective rate of 12.7%. A $300 Furniture item pays US$30.00 + US$10.00 = US$40.00.
  • "For products with a total sales price of" tiers (Baby, Beauty Health and Personal Care, Clothing and Accessories, Grocery and Gourmet, Lawn Mowers) apply one rate to the whole price. Cross the threshold by one cent and the higher rate applies to every dollar. That creates a band of prices just above each threshold that leaves you with less money than the threshold price itself.

The price cliffs, worked out

All examples assume no shipping or gift-wrap charge, so the total sales price is the item price. Amounts are rounded to the cent. They show only the referral fee. Your FBA fee, product cost and ad spend come off after this.

Beauty, Health and Personal Care (and Baby Products): the $10.00 line

PriceRateReferral feeLeft after referral fee
US$9.998%US$0.80US$9.19
US$10.4915%US$1.57US$8.92
US$10.9915%US$1.65US$9.34

At $10.00 you keep $9.20 after the referral fee. At $10.01 the rate jumps from 8% to 15% and you keep $8.51. You need to charge at least $10.83 to keep more than you would at $10.00. Any price from $10.01 to $10.82 is a worse price for you than $10.00, even before the shopper sees it as more expensive. Baby Products uses the same 8% / 15% split at $10.00.

Clothing and Accessories: the $15.00 and $20.00 lines

PriceRateReferral feeLeft after referral fee
US$19.9910%US$2.00US$17.99
US$20.9917%US$3.57US$17.42
US$21.9917%US$3.74US$18.25

Clothing has two cliffs. At $20.00 you keep $18.00. At $20.01 the rate goes from 10% to 17% and you keep $16.61. The break-even price is $21.69, so $20.01 to $21.68 is a dead zone. The lower cliff works the same way: $15.00 keeps $14.25 at 5%, $15.01 keeps $13.51 at 10%, and you need $15.84 to get back above $14.25.

Grocery and Gourmet: the $15.00 line

PriceRateReferral feeLeft after referral fee
US$14.998%US$1.20US$13.79
US$15.9915%US$2.40US$13.59
US$16.9915%US$2.55US$14.44

At $15.00 you keep $13.80 at 8%. At $15.01 the rate is 15% and you keep $12.76. The break-even price is $16.24. Grocery and Gourmet has no minimum fee listed.

Lawn Mowers and Snow Throwers: the $500 line works the other way

This one drops: 15% up to $500.00, 8% above. A $500.00 mower pays $75.00 and leaves $425.00. A $500.01 mower pays $40.00 and leaves $460.01. If you sell near $500, the higher price can be worth $35 more per unit to you.

The $0.30 minimum on cheap items

In a 15% category the minimum takes over below $2.00, because 15% of $2.00 is exactly $0.30. A $1.50 item pays $0.30, which is 20% of the price. For low-priced add-on items the minimum, not the percentage, is the number to plan around.

What the referral fee does to your ad budget

The referral fee comes off every sale before you spend a cent on ads. In a 15% category, at most 85% of the price is left to cover product cost, FBA, other costs, ads and profit. A dead-zone price shrinks that further, and every dollar it costs you per unit comes straight out of your break-even ACoS and the maximum CPC you can afford. Put your real fee into the break-even ACoS calculator or the Amazon profit margin calculator. The PPC bid worked example walks one product from fees to a max CPC table, and the Amazon Australia seller fees page does the same for Amazon.com.au in AUD.

CEILR's own maths uses the fees you enter or import. It doesn't look up your fee category for you, and nothing on this page is advice from Amazon. CEILR is independent from Amazon.
